Archiving vs. deleting an email or phone number

Why archive and delete both preserve history, and when each applies.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Both archiving and deleting an email or phone are soft operations. Neither one erases the underlying conversation history tied to that entry.

The key restriction

A primary email or phone cannot be archived or deleted while it's still primary. You need to designate another active entry as primary first, then the original becomes eligible.

Example: A candidate changes jobs and gets a new work email. Add the new email, mark it primary, and only then archive the old one — trying to archive it first will be blocked.

Things to know:

Hard delete is possible by clicking on the edit icon beside a number or email and deleting from the next modal as seen in the image below.
