Troubleshooting: Sequence Won't Launch

Every reason the Launch button stays disabled in Sequences — with a specific fix for each validation failure including missing content, unresolved branches, missing senders, and plan gating.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Who this is for: Recruiters who have built a sequence but can't get the Launch button to activate.

Why the Launch button stays disabled

Recruiterflow runs a validation check before enabling the Launch button. Every item below must be resolved before the sequence can go live. The builder flags incomplete items visually — look for red borders, warning icons, or greyed-out step cards in the sequence canvas.

Every validation failure — and how to fix it

Email step missing a subject line

Affects: Automated Email, Manual Email, Marketing Email steps

What you'll see: The step card shows a red border. Hovering shows "Subject line is required."

Fix: Open the step and add a subject line. Even a placeholder works for launch — you can refine it later.

Email, SMS, or Social Message step missing a body

Affects: Automated Email, Manual Email, Marketing Email, SMS, Social Message steps

What you'll see: The step card shows a red border. Hovering shows "Message body is required."

Fix: Open the step and add content.

Task step missing a title

Affects: Task steps

What you'll see: The step card shows a red border. Hovering shows "Task title is required."

Fix: Open the step and add a task title.

Sequence ends on a branch

Affects: Any sequence with conditional branching

What you'll see: The launch validation message reads: "Sequence cannot end on a branch. Add at least one step to both the Yes and No paths."

Fix: Add at least one step to both the Yes path and the No path of every branch node in the sequence. Branches with steps in only one path will fail validation. Branches where both paths are empty will also fail.

No sender selected

What you'll see: The launch validation message reads: "At least one sender is required."

Fix: Open the sequence settings modal or the Senders section and select at least one sender from the dropdown. You can add more senders after launch if needed.

No schedule selected

What you'll see: The launch validation message reads: "A sending schedule is required."

Fix: Open the sequence settings modal and select a schedule from the dropdown. If no schedules exist, ask your Admin to create one in Settings → Automation Settings → Sequences Schedule Settings.

Marketing Email step with no integration connected

What you'll see: The Marketing Email step card shows a red border. Hovering shows "Marketing email integration required."

Fix: Connect a marketing email delivery provider in Settings → Automation Settings → Marketing Email Authentication.

Step has unsaved changes

What you'll see: The step card shows an unsaved changes indicator — typically a dot or an asterisk next to the step name. The Launch button may remain greyed out even though required fields appear filled.

Fix: Click Save on each step that has unsaved changes. Check all steps, not just the ones that look incomplete — unsaved state on a step with valid content still blocks launch.

Social step on a non-AIRA Plan

What you'll see: Social Connection Request and Social Message step cards appear greyed out with an upgrade lock icon. They cannot be saved or included in a launchable sequence on Platform and older plans.

Fix: Either upgrade to the AIRA Plan (contact your Recruiterflow account manager), or replace the Social steps with email or SMS steps.

Branching on a non-AIRA Plan

What you'll see: The Add Branch option is greyed out. Any existing branch nodes added before a plan downgrade will be flagged as invalid.

Fix: Same as above — upgrade to AIRA Plan, or remove the branch nodes and restructure the sequence as a linear flow.

Launch button still blocked after fixing everything?

If you've resolved all visible validation errors and the Launch button is still disabled:

  1. Hard-refresh the page (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac, Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows)

  2. Re-open the sequence from the Sequences table

  3. Go through every step and confirm each one is saved — click the step card to open it and check for the Save button state

  4. If the issue persists, contact Recruiterflow support with the sequence name and a description of what's missing
