Videos and media in job descriptions can dramatically improve candidate engagement, help them understand the role better, and reduce application drop-off rates. Recruiterflow supports embedding videos directly into your job postings.

Why Add Video to Job Descriptions?

  • Candidates get a clearer picture of the role and company culture

  • Video previews from hiring managers or team members build connection

  • Candidates are more likely to apply and follow through

  • Reduce time spent in phone screens by addressing common questions upfront

  • Stand out from competitors with richer job postings

Supported Video Formats

You can embed videos from:

  • YouTube

  • Vimeo

  • Wistia

  • Loom

  • Direct video file URLs (MP4, WebM)

How to Add a Video to a Job Description

Step 1: Open Job Setup

  1. Navigate to the job you want to edit (or create a new job)

  2. Go to the Job Description section

  3. Position your cursor where you want the video to appear

Step 2: Insert Media

  1. In the rich text editor, click the Insert/Edit Media button (looks like a film/video icon)

  2. A popup will appear asking for the video source

Step 3: Add Video URL

  1. Paste the video URL into the Source field

  2. For YouTube videos, use the standard video URL (example.com/watch?v=...)

  3. For other platforms, use the embed or shareable link

Step 4: Customize Dimensions

  1. Set the video width and height to control how it displays

  2. Common dimensions: 560x315 pixels (16:9 aspect ratio) or 640x360 pixels

  3. Recruiterflow will automatically scale the video to fit different screen sizes

Step 5: Preview and Save

  1. Click Save to add the video

  2. Preview how the video appears in your job description

  3. Adjust spacing and positioning as needed using text formatting

  4. Click Update and Finish

Positioning and Spacing

After inserting the video:

  • Add line breaks before and after the video for proper spacing

  • Align text around the video using the text editor alignment tools

  • You can add a brief caption or description above or below the video

Best Practices for Job Description Videos

  • Keep it short: 30-90 seconds is ideal. Candidates want a quick overview, not a full presentation

  • Feature real people: Have a hiring manager, team member, or company leader speak directly to candidates

  • Show the workplace: Give candidates a visual sense of your office, team, or company culture

  • Address common questions: Answer "What will I be doing?" "Who will I work with?" "What's the culture like?"

  • Use captions: Many candidates watch without sound—add burned-in captions or subtitles

  • Test on mobile: Most candidates view jobs on phones, so ensure videos play smoothly on all devices

  • High production quality isn't required: A phone-recorded video of your team is more engaging than a corporate marketing video

Troubleshooting Video Issues

Video won't load

  • Check that the URL is correct and the video is publicly accessible

  • Ensure the video platform isn't blocking embeds in your region

  • Try copying the embed code directly from the video platform instead of the watch URL

Video looks distorted or stretched

  • Adjust the width and height values to match the video's aspect ratio

  • Try standard dimensions like 560x315 or 640x360 for 16:9 videos

Candidates report slow loading

  • Ensure your video file size is optimized (under 100MB is ideal)

  • Use video hosting platforms like YouTube or Vimeo rather than direct file uploads for better performance

Multiple Videos in One Job

You can add multiple videos to a single job description:

  • Create sections with headers (e.g., "Meet the Team", "Day in the Life")

  • Add a video under each section

  • Keep the total video content to 2-3 minutes across all videos

Updating or Removing Videos

  1. Go to Job SetupJob Description

  2. Click on the video to select it

  3. Click Delete to remove the video

  4. Save your changes
