Step-wise Success Snapshot

How to read the Step-wise Success Snapshot — metric definitions per step type, how branch paths appear, and what the numbers are telling you about where to optimise.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Who this is for: Recruiters and managers who want to understand how individual steps are performing — not just the sequence as a whole.

What the Step-wise Success Snapshot shows

The Step-wise Success Snapshot lives in the Overview tab of each sequence, beside the Channel Performance Report. It gives you a granular, per-step view of performance — each row is a sequence step, and the columns show how recipients moved through that specific step.

Use it to pinpoint exactly where recipients are dropping off, stalling, or erroring — so you can fix the right step instead of guessing.

Recipients Attempted — the anchor metric

Every step card shows Recipients Attempted prominently at the top. This is the number of recipients for whom this step was executed or attempted — including those who errored, were skipped, or are currently in the queue for this step.

Hovering over this number shows the breakdown of recipients currently in the queue vs. those who have been attempted.

All other metrics on the step card are calculated as a percentage of Recipients Attempted, with the absolute count shown alongside.

How branches appear in the report

When a sequence includes conditional branches, the Step-wise Success Snapshot shows the branch node as a row with a count of how many recipients went down each path:

  • Yes path: number of recipients who met the condition

  • No path: number of recipients who did not meet the condition

Steps within each branch path then show their own metrics independently — recipients on the Yes path and No path are counted separately within their respective steps.

How to read the report effectively

A few things to look for when reviewing step performance:

  • High Error % on a step — usually a systemic issue: a missing field that affects many recipients, a disconnected integration, or an invalid contact detail that wasn't caught before launch. Fix the root cause, then bulk retry from the Errors tab.

  • High Skipped % — recipients are being manually skipped at this step, or the skip-on-overdue toggle is firing frequently. If it's a Task step, it may mean the due date is too tight.

  • High Pending % or Overdue % on Manual Email steps — your team is not actioning manual emails fast enough. Consider switching to Automated Email, tightening the task reminder, or increasing the delay before this step.

  • Sharp drop in Recipients Attempted between steps — recipients are stopping or erroring out before this step. Check the Error % on the preceding step.

  • Reply % on a mid-sequence step is higher than Step 1 — your later steps may be more compelling than your opener. Worth testing a reorder.
