Save an Email as a Template — FAQ

Common questions about saving templates directly from the email composer.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Does saving a template also send my email?

No. Saving as a template and sending are separate actions. Your draft stays open in the composer after you save the template, so you still need to click Send when you're ready.

Will the text I typed convert into merge fields automatically?

No. Anything you typed by hand, like a candidate's first name, is saved as plain text, not as a dynamic merge field. If you want the template to auto-fill that detail for future recipients, add it using the merge-field picker before you save.

Who can see a template I save from the composer?

By default, your whole workspace as the check box to share with others enabled by default. See Create email templates for candidates, clients, and teammates for how to keep one private to you.

Can I edit a template after saving it from the composer?

Yes. It's edited the same way as any other template, from Settings → Templates. Editing it doesn't change emails you've already sent.

Where can I use this?

From the email composer on a candidate or contact profile, in the new profile experience. It's not yet available from bulk email or sequence step composers.

Can I delete a template I saved this way?

Yes, from Settings → Templates → Email Templates, the same as any other template.
