Domain Blocklist vs. Off Limits: What's the Difference?

Two different ways to restrict candidates by company — here's when to use which.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Recruiterflow has two features that restrict candidates or contacts from specific companies, and they solve different problems. Using the wrong one for your situation can leave a gap, so it's worth knowing which does what.

Domain Blocklist

Keeps any email on a blocked domain off a candidate or contact profile. If someone adds a new record with a blocked-domain email, the profile is still created, but the email is stripped from it. If someone tries to add a blocked-domain email to an existing profile, the edit is rejected with an error. Either way, nobody on your team ends up with a saved email on that domain. See What Is the Domain Blocklist?

Off Limits

Lets a candidate or contact already exist in Recruiterflow, email and all, but restricts outreach to them, sending emails, adding to sequences, and similar communication. Off Limits also supports cool-off periods, so the restriction can expire automatically, and multiple named reasons like non-compete or strategic partnership.

Which one should you use?

  • Use Domain Blocklist when you don't want anyone's email from a domain saved to a record at all, for example a strict non-compete or a company you should have zero contact-detail visibility into.

  • Use Off Limits when candidates from a company are fine to have fully in your database, email included, for tracking or historical purposes, but your team shouldn't reach out to them, and especially when you need a cool-off period that lifts the restriction automatically.

Things to know

  • The two features are independent. Adding a domain to one doesn't automatically add it to the other.

  • A company can be under an Off Limits restriction and not on the Domain Blocklist, and vice versa, depending on which behavior you need.
