Filter contacts by primary or all companies

Choose whether a contact filter checks the primary company or every company a contact is linked to.

Written by Amogh Balikai

Contacts might work at more than one company, and the Primary and All dropdown lets each search decide whether to match a contact's main company or every company they are linked to.

Use this when you search contacts by company, for example everyone at a client, or when you filter a company's contacts by radius. The dropdown does not change which companies a contact is linked to. It changes which of those links a filter checks.

What Primary and All mean

  • Primary (default) matches contacts whose primary company meets the filter condition.

  • All matches contacts when any linked company, primary or secondary, meets the condition.

Where the dropdown appears

  • Company-based filters on contacts, including all enrichment filters.

  • The Contact and Contact Radius Search filters on a company's page. These accept Primary or All as an input.

Use the dropdown

  1. Open Advanced Search, or the filter panel on the page you are using.

  2. Add a company-based filter and set its condition, such as a company name.

  3. Choose Primary or All in the dropdown next to the filter.

  4. Run the search. Results match your choice.

Example

Arjen Robben is Head of Recruiting at Lumen Payments, his primary company. He also holds a board seat at Fernhill Bank. You filter for contacts at Fernhill Bank. With Primary, Arjen does not appear. With All, he does, because Fernhill Bank is one of his linked companies.

Things to know

  • Primary is the default on every filter that has the dropdown.

  • Choose All when you want board members, advisors, and contacts with a second role in your results.

  • Choose Primary when you want each contact counted under one company only.
