This guide shows you how to quickly reconnect when your session expires.

Written by Amogh Balikai

When You Need to Reconnect

You'll need to reconnect your LinkedIn account if:

  • ๐ŸŸก You see a "LinkedIn session expired" warning in the Recruiterflow extension

  • ๐Ÿ”ด LinkedIn messages aren't sending from Recruiterflow

  • ๐Ÿ”ด You logged out of LinkedIn and logged back in

  • ๐Ÿ”ด You cleared your browser cookies or cache

  • ๐Ÿ”ด You haven't used LinkedIn in several weeks

  • ๐ŸŸก The extension shows "Reconnect LinkedIn" instead of a connected status

๐Ÿ’ก Reconnecting takes less than 30 seconds and doesn't affect your existing sequences or message history.

How to Reconnect (Quick Method)

Step 1: Make Sure You're Logged Into LinkedIn

  1. Open linkedin.com in Chrome

  2. Verify you're logged into your account

  3. Keep this tab open

Step 2: Reconnect Through the Extension

  1. Click the Recruiterflow extension icon in your Chrome toolbar

  2. Click the three dots (โ‹ฎ) in the top-right corner of the extension

  3. Select Reconnect LinkedIn

  4. Wait a few seconds

You'll see a green message: โœ… LinkedIn connected

That's it! Your connection is restored.

Alternative Method: Reconnect from Recruiterflow

If you prefer, you can also reconnect from within Recruiterflow:

  1. Go to Settings โ†’ Integrations in Recruiterflow

  2. Find the LinkedIn Integration section

  3. If disconnected, you'll see a Connect LinkedIn button

  4. Click it and follow the prompts

  5. This will open the extension where you can complete the reconnection

What Happens During Reconnection?

โœ… What's preserved:

  • Your message history

  • Active sequences continue running

  • Scheduled messages remain scheduled

  • Connection request history

  • Your integration settings

โš ๏ธ What you might notice:

  • A brief pause (1-2 minutes) before messages resume sending

  • Any messages that failed to send while disconnected will need to be resent manually

Troubleshooting Reconnection Issues

"Login required" Error

Fix: You're not logged into LinkedIn in Chrome.

  1. Open linkedin.com in a new tab

  2. Log into your LinkedIn account

  3. Return to the extension and try reconnecting again

"Couldn't connect. Try again" Error

Fix: Temporary connection issue.

  1. Refresh your LinkedIn tab

  2. Wait 30 seconds

  3. Click Retry in the extension

If this persists after 3 attempts, see our Troubleshooting LinkedIn Connection Issues guide.

Extension Shows Connected, but Recruiterflow Shows Disconnected

Fix: Sync issue between extension and dashboard.

  1. Log out of Recruiterflow

  2. Log back in

  3. Go to Settings โ†’ Integrations

  4. Refresh the page

  5. Check if the connection status updated

If still not synced:

  1. Disconnect LinkedIn from the extension (three dots โ†’ Disconnect)

  2. Wait 10 seconds

  3. Reconnect through the extension

  4. Check Recruiterflow dashboard again

Connection Keeps Expiring Frequently

Common causes:

  • Logging out of LinkedIn regularly

  • Clearing browser data often

  • Using Incognito mode

  • LinkedIn security settings requiring frequent re-authentication

Fix:

  1. Stay logged into LinkedIn: Don't log out between sessions

  2. Exclude LinkedIn from cache clearing: When clearing browser data, uncheck cookies for linkedin.com

  3. Use regular Chrome windows: Avoid Incognito/Private mode

  4. Check LinkedIn security settings:

    • Go to LinkedIn Settings โ†’ Security

    • Review "Where you're signed in"

    • Make sure Chrome isn't being logged out automatically

Preventing Session Expiry

Best Practices to Stay Connected

โœ… Keep LinkedIn logged in: Don't log out unless absolutely necessary

โœ… Use LinkedIn regularly: Visit linkedin.com at least once a week

โœ… Don't clear LinkedIn cookies: When clearing browser data, exclude linkedin.com

โœ… Maintain an active profile: LinkedIn is less likely to expire sessions for active users

โœ… Check connection status weekly: Open the extension occasionally to verify you're still connected

Understanding Session Expiry

Why does this happen?

LinkedIn automatically logs you out after:

  • Extended periods of inactivity (typically 30-60 days)

  • Clearing browser cookies

  • Manual logout

  • Security events (password change, suspicious activity detection)

  • Browser updates that clear session data

This is normal and expected. Even without Recruiterflow, LinkedIn sessions expire periodically for security reasons.

When to Contact Support

Reach out to help@recruiterflow.com if:

  • You can't reconnect after multiple attempts

  • Your connection expires every day despite staying logged in

  • You're getting errors you don't understand

  • Messages aren't sending even after reconnection

  • The extension shows connected but Recruiterflow shows disconnected (and troubleshooting didn't fix it)

Include in your message:

  • Screenshot of any error messages

  • When you last successfully connected

  • What troubleshooting steps you've tried

Quick Reconnection Checklist

Before contacting support, make sure you've:

  • Logged into linkedin.com in Chrome

  • Kept the LinkedIn tab open

  • Clicked the extension icon

  • Selected "Reconnect LinkedIn" from the three dots menu

  • Waited at least 30 seconds for connection

  • Refreshed your Recruiterflow dashboard

  • Verified connection in Settings โ†’ Integrations

FAQ

Do I lose my sequences when I reconnect?
No. All your sequences, scheduled messages, and settings remain intact.

How long does reconnection take?
Usually 10-30 seconds.

Will my contacts know I reconnected?
No. Reconnection happens in the background and is invisible to your LinkedIn connections.

Can I prevent my session from expiring?
Not entirely. LinkedIn controls session duration for security. But staying logged in and using LinkedIn regularly helps.

What if I'm using LinkedIn Recruiter?
The reconnection process is identical for both regular LinkedIn and LinkedIn Recruiter accounts.

Do I need to reconnect on every device?
The Recruiterflow extension only works in Chrome desktop. If you use multiple computers, you'll need to connect on each one.
