Every recipient status explained in plain English — what it means, what caused it, and what actions are available in each state.

What recipient statuses mean

Every recipient in a sequence has a status that tells you exactly where they are and what's happening. Here's what each one means and what you can do about it.

Status reference

In Progress

The recipient is actively moving through the sequence. This covers everything from waiting out a delay between steps to actively having a message dispatched. No action needed unless you want to intervene.

Pending Action

The recipient has reached a step that requires manual action from you — a Manual Email step or a Task step. The sequence is paused for this recipient until you act.

  • For a Manual Email: clicking the status opens the email tab on the recipient's profile with the content ready. You can send now, schedule, or skip.

  • For a Task: clicking the status opens the recipient's profile with the task banner at the top. Complete or skip the task to advance the sequence.

Paused

The sequence has been paused for this recipient — either because you paused it individually, or because the entire sequence was paused. No steps will execute until the recipient or sequence is resumed.

Error

A step failed to execute for this recipient. Clicking the status opens the Errors tab filtered to this recipient, where you'll see the specific error and the suggested fix. Common causes include a disconnected integration, a missing email address, or an invalid phone number.

See Managing Errors in Sequences for a full list of error types and resolutions.

Bounced

An email sent to this recipient hard-bounced — meaning the email address is permanently undeliverable. This is a terminal state. The only available action is to delete the recipient from the sequence.

Completed

All steps in the sequence have been successfully executed for this recipient. The sequence is complete for them.

Stopped

You manually stopped the sequence for this recipient. This is permanent — recipients in Stopped status cannot be resumed. Their data remains visible in reports.

Unsubscribed

The recipient unsubscribed from emails or was added to the global suppression list. No further outreach will be sent to them via any sequence.

What you can do in each status

Not every action is available in every status. Here's a quick reference:
