Retranscribing a call replaces its transcript and summary, but the timing and safeguards around that replacement are worth understanding before you trigger one.
What happens on a successful retranscribe
Your original transcript and summary stay in place while the new transcription job runs. Only once the new transcript finishes generating are the old transcript and summary replaced with the new ones.
What happens if the retranscribe fails
If the retranscription job fails for any reason, your original transcript and summary are left untouched. Nothing is deleted until a new transcript successfully generates.
What happens with the summary
Summary generation runs as a separate step after the new transcript is ready. It's possible for the transcript to retranscribe successfully while the summary generation step fails on its own. If that happens, you can manually change the summary from the call detail page without rerunning the transcript again.
Example
A recruiter notices a call was transcribed in German when the conversation was actually in Dutch and English. They update the Notetaker language setting to the correct language, then click Retranscribe Recording. The original transcript stays visible while the job runs. A few minutes later, the corrected transcript appears and a new summary is generated automatically.
